The Tour guide's in depth knowledge provided another dimension to this expedition. His descriptions assisted us to travel back in time and get a feeling about what exactly had happened during the time the allied forces landed in Anzio. Highly recommended to anyone interested in Italian and World War histories.

The Caves of Aprilia are a must-go for the ones going to Anzio on the footsteps of Operation Shingle. Perfect guide and patron is Enrico, who set up and refurbished the site - abandoned for years - mantaining its flavour. When there, it is like watching Axis & Allies soldiers running after eachother... but please, don’t go there without reading Raleigh Trevelyan’ s The fortress before !

Excellent tour! Our tour guide arranged for us to meet Enrico from Operation Shingle because my cousin was in the 45th United States Infantry Division which fought from Sicily to Dachau. One area that was occupied by his unit was the caves.Walking the corridors, seeing remnants of the war combined with evidence of Roman excavation create a very tangible connection to the recent and ancient past. The tour was thorough and enlightening.I would definitely visit again! Mille grazie, Enrico!
