Ponte dei Sospiri

The say it is named Bridge of Sighs due to the fact that this is the bridge that connects from the palace to the prison cells. Once the condemned prisoners was sentenced and will be brought to their cell, they will pass through this bridge, pause in the middle and looked through the windows from the bridge. The only thing the prisoner could do is to sigh, knowing that this will be almost the last time they will see the beauty of the city of Venice and onced caged, they are doomed.The light inside the bridge is so different and it is like highlighting the history of this bridge. What more when you see the cells. Looking back at it’s history, this place is where all condemned souls suffered for their acts against the law.Outside, it is so iconic and not knowing it’s true history is something that every one must find out why it is called that name.

Ponte bellissimo!Si può osservare dal Ponte della Paglia, camminando nella suggestiva Riva degli Schiavoni!Essendo un luogo molto turistico di Venezia, non è facile trovare subito il posto per fare delle foto, quindi bisogna armarsi di pazienza ed aspettare qualche minuto!!Si può passare sotto di esso con un giro in gonfola

Panorama unico e incantevole. Affascinante per la sua storia, questo ponte veniva chiamato così per i sospiri che i prigionieri facevano lungo la via verso le prigioni.Facilmente ammirabile dal Ponte della Paglia che detiene la vista migliore del Ponte o via gondola.Venezia è la città dell'amore ma vi è tanta storia piena di dolore, malattia e sofferenza. Luoghi misteriosi e pericolosi.Il fascino di questa città è unico al mondo!

Emozionante, visitare le carceri e rifare lo stesso tratto che facevano i prigionieri prima di andare a morte lanciando i loro sospiri...Da vedere sia dall'interno, con la visita alle prigioni, che fare il percorso che poi lo fa attraversare.Personalmente passarci dal sotto, l ho trovato ancora più incredibile e meraviglioso.La gondola ti dà una prospettiva di Venezia

A very nice bridge. Always besieged. During this year's visit to Venice, a policeman chased us off the bridge overlooking the Bridge of Sighs, probably for security reasons. It is an interesting perspective when you can walk across the bridge when visiting the Doge's Palace. For convicts, unfortunately this walk was the last one.

Visto da fuori perché la fila per la visita era interminabile, anzi infinita. Comunque ha il suo fascino anche da fuori, conoscendo anche il perché del nome. Il ponte veniva attraversato dalle persone che erano condannate al carcere ed era l'ultima volta che vedevano l'esterno e la luce del sole

Only had a bit of time as it was part of the larger visit to the Palazzo Ducale. But it was just as I thought, with a view towards the centre on the first pass and then the beautiful view towards the lagoon on the 2nd pass. I can only imagine what was going through the minds of the old prisoners who saw those views for their last time...

È uno dei più famosi ponti di Venezia, ma benché il nome potrebbe far pensare al romanticismo è esattamente l'opposto. È un ponte a due piani e per attraversarlo occorre entrare a Palazzo ducale o alle Prigioni. Il nome sospiri ha un duplice significato, a seconda del piano in cui ci si trova. A percorrerlo erano i prigionieri che attraversandolo sospiravano per la ritrovata libertà (in una direzione) oppure erano angosciati per l'imminente prigionia (nella direzione opposta). Ai nostri giorni è uno dei ponti più fotografati dai turisti ed è anche uno degli itinerari più richiesti durante un giro in gondola...

You can walk across the Bridge of sighs when you buy a ticket to visit the Doge's palace. June '23 entrance fee was 30 € but also gave you free entry to a couple of other places we didn't have time to see. Amazing place.

Worth going to see when in Venice. You can get nice photos with gondolas sailing up the canal below it. Instead of taking photos on the bridge you can go down below on the right which gives you less tourists in the pictures.
