When dawn breaks over the horizon, a thunderous roar rapidly emerges. Vibrations penetrate to the core of every man, woman, child and being. All gazes fixate on the mighty grey beast rocketing down the runway! A young boy, looks up at his father and asks, what is that daddy? Is that the plane you fly? The father hangs his head and says no son, that is an F-15E Strike Eagle, I was never lucky enough to fly one

In June of 1958, I was an E2 in a team of six from the then 1894th AACS (2871st GEEIA) from Wheelus AB in Libya. We opened the control tower. We spent many hours at a forest bar out the back gate. Three months later, the F100s flew in. We originally stayed in Pordenone but moved to the new barracks. I loved that duty station.

I loved my many visits to Aviano Air Base while stationed at Ramstein AB. The Italian people were gracious hosts with the remembrance of many fine memories.
