Tragicomica

Out of the 5-6 mask shops we visited, Tragicomica had the most unique and broadest variety of masks. We spent the most here and found some favorite masks and souvenirs!

High key racist. Walked into the store and saw the staff of two women helping a group of white Americans. They were very friendly with them and were just wrapping up their purchase. After the group of white Americans had left they turned their attention to us. Based on that interaction we were expecting friendly service…We are Asian American and the first thing they said to us was “no pictures.” None of us even had our phones out we were just looking at some masks. We had seen the little print outs telling us that pictures cost 1 euro and were respectful of that. They then proceeded to tail us around the store like we were gonna try and sneak a picture in. Not really a great way to welcome in guests to be honest.There are several other artisan mask shops in the area of similar or higher quality. We bought from them instead as they provided friendly service to all people. If you want to support racism, feel free to shop here. If not, I’d take your money elsewhere

This shop is amazing. The staff were very friendly and helped us find masks for our nieces. Unfortunately, their card reader was down, but they gave us a discount for the inconvenience.

Loved this shop. My daughter and I had great fun dressing in Venetian costumes. The lady even took pictures for us in and outside the shop. A lovely experience. Will be back on our next visit. Also VERY reasonable price. Highly recommend.

You can tell just by entering the shop that the designs are truly unique. We were taken care of by Alessandra and not only she was a delight to talk to, but she was very helpful recommending a mask to match in contrast with another mask that we had acquired in a different shop. Do not waste your time buying the same old cheap designs you see everywhere in Venice. The prices are high but you can always get a smaller version of the mask you want. Anything else it's just not worth it.

We went to the atelier in Calle del Traghetto Vecchio N. 2874 to rent carnival costumes for a ball. It was one of the best experiences of our lives. Alessandra who has been there for over 22 years made you feel like a star getting you ready for a role in a movie. She is fantastic, professional, kind and she is really really good putting a costume together that will make you look your best. Absolutely fantastic. Thanks again Alessandra!

My family and I had a chance to go to this mask shop in Venice a few weeks ago. The staff was very friendly and mentioned the opportunity to sign up and make our own masks with the help of one of their artists. We signed up and came back a few days later and got to go to their workshop and make our own masks. It was one of our favorite experiences in Venice and I highly recommend it. Even though I'm less artistic than my wife and children, I was still able to make a very nice mask and had some good input by the in-house artist to help guide me a little. We now have some great memories and souvenirs and learned about the history of masks in Venice along the way.

Very helpful staff. My kids love their masks. Excellent quality.
