Main artery between North and South Europe. The Austrian-Italian border is the lowest elevation passage , around 1000mt high and always open. But beware of heavy trucks traffic and holiday season , check weather ahead of trip, to avoid snow and heavy rain. Buy the Austrian highway 'vignette' for toll ahead of time before you cross into austria at italian gas stations. And if coming south instead also prepay the highway toll ( on top of the vignette ) at the 'digital self service' machines by entering your cars tag so you can skip the lines through the digital check lanes.Also, watch out for construction, as it reduces the highway to one lane, then you're better off taking the regular roads.

Il passo del Brennero (Brennerpass in tedesco) è un valico alpino che collega Italia e Austria, sito a 1 372 m s.l.m.; si trova 80 km a nord di Bolzano in Alto Adige e rappresenta uno dei collegamenti più importanti fra i Paesi dell'Europa centrale e l'Italia, vi transita l'Autostrada del Brennero
