Il Convento is publicised (and priced) as a luxury place to stay. There is no doubt that the convent building is beautiful and that the tranquil gardens are a labour of love. Unfortunately that's really where the specialness of it ends. We thought that being a convent it would be in a peaceful location; itisn't. It is positioned next to a very busy and noisy road, and there is building work going on at the neighbouring property. This started every morning just before 7am, and was also very noisy. We didn't mind the lack of air conditioning ( we were expecting this) but that does mean you need to keep the windows open, so the noise can't be avoided.The breakfast was excellent, but the evening meal was over priced at 50 euros a head.... it was plentiful and tasty but did not justify the cost. We had some excellent meals out at much less.The housekeeping staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, but the only toiletries provided was a bottle of liquid soap - no shampoo available. This doesn't fit with a property that purports to be 'luxury'. Room tidying felt intrusive..... pretty much every time we left our room.It is true to say that you have free access to the fridge and its alcoholic contents but this does not make up for the rest of it.We cut our 5 night stay (400 pounds per night) short by 3 nights. We had paid in advance but were not offered any refund. We were a little surprised that Pier Luigi still accepted the 100 euros cash for the meal!Il Convento trades on its quirkiness but in our view does not justify its high price.
