Bed and Breakfast La Casa di Gio'
On initial arrival the hosts, Giorgio and his wife, seemed welcoming and helpful- Giorgio offering to carry our heavy cases up the stairs etc. The first few days we spent in the apartment were very comfortable and everything we hoped it would be.One morning at the private pool Giorgio’s wife scolded us, her paying guests, in a hostile Italian bark which we did not understand, for not covering up enough. There were no signs anywhere indicating we had to be fully covered, and the interaction was humiliating for all those involved, we were shouted at like children and for the rest of our stay we felt very uncomfortable; so much so that we spent 2 days and 1 night in the city centre of Rome at extra expense to take some time away from our hosts. After this encounter Giorgio’s wife was rude towards us for the rest of our stay, throwing us dirty looks constantly and all friendliness that had been there at the start vanished.During our stay we spent another full day at a beach club, and 2 of our 10 days were spent travelling - out of 10 days we had booked and paid for, only 5 full days were spent in the apartment and surrounding areas. At the end of our stay as we were leaving with luggage, Giorgio advised us that next time we stay in Italy we should not spend so much time in the apartment, and that he found it difficult because we were there so much. He told us it was his house too, he was running a BnB, not a hotel. On the Airbnb listing there was a point about using the pool in specified hours only, on arrival we clarified this with Giorgio who told us we could in fact use the pool any time of day. I’m leaving he told us that actually he’d preferred for us to use the pool only for a few hours in the morning and a few hours in the afternoon, this was not mentioned at all during the duration of our stay, even when the Giorgio and his wife spent time in the pool when we were already there. We were under the impression from the listing that we had a private pool, and the hosts using the pool at the same time we did was nothing but uncomfortable.Giorgio and his wife would enter our apartment when we were out with no warning, invading our privacy on numerous occasions. The hosts had a pet dog on the premise who at every meal time came up to our apartment and begged for food, we felt this was unprofessional on the hosts part.On our last day our checkout time was 11am, every morning we were provided with breakfast at ~9am however on our last day we were not provided with any breakfast and were not made aware of this so had made no alternative plans. On the morning of our departure our hosts came into the apartment and started emptying bins and moving furniture before we had left. While doing this the hosts threw away some items we had not yet packed in our hand luggage, Giorgio’s wife was storming round the apartment, which we’d previously tidied and cleaned meticulously so there was nothing she could complain to us about. There were a few incidents when Giorgio would speak to us individually in the apartment while the other guests were by the pool, we were in our swimsuits/ bikinis and alone in the apartment with him scolding us for minor accidents - wax from a candle had dripped on a tile and another when there was a stain on a table cloth - this was inappropriate by any standard, we are all girls in our early 20s, when this happened we felt unsafe and nervous. The wax on the tiles wiped off easily, we offered to clean this off multiple times however Giorgio brushed the offer off and did it himself. The same happened with the tablecloth, we apologised and promised to be more careful however Giorgio was dismissive and continued to belittle us.The apartment and pool were lovely, the hosts not so much. We will not be returning.

We paid over £1,500 to be told we shouldn’t have been using the area. The hosts were incredibly rude and hostile towards us despite our attempts to be friendly and help clean up. They treated us like children as opposed to treating us like adults. If we had known we would have been constantly watched over and scolded like dogs we wouldn’t have booked our stay there. They had 10 days to speak to us or lay down some rules but waited until we were leaving to have a go at us about how we shouldn’t have been using the area and how we spent our “entire time” at the villa, despite us spending 5 days away from the space; including a night we booked in Rome to get away from the environment. One of the hosts came in early while we were packing and binned some of our items as she threw a tantrum despite us leaving the area near-immaculate, and earlier on the holiday had left an expensive foundation teetering in the edge of a table so it fell and broke. We had been told we were “disrespecting” the house despite cleaning up any actual mess such as food etc, only leaving clutter around as we were a group of women. Worst b&b experience I’ve had... if you could call it that. The few breakfasts they did give us were dismal before the wife gave up even giving us our few warm slices of meat and cheese. If we were only supposed to sleep there and have breakfast, I’d assume they’d give us more than some sad processed food.As someone who works with the public, I appreciate the importance of good hospitality and treating each other as equals. Never in my life have I been met with such disrespect and vile attitudes. A language barrier is not an excuse to treat people how we were treated, especially paying customers.
