He wired my bathroom fan like this (see photos, any competent electrician will tell you it's missing a cable). He had brand new tubes ready for him all he had to do was run the cable and wire up.When we asked if the fan was working he said yes, we said it was very quiet, basically silent, and he said it was like that. After he left we checked it because it seemed like it wasn't working and it wasn't. Phoned him, he said the pipe in the wall wasn't straight so it wasn't his fault. I took the fan out of the wall and tried it again outside of the pipe, it still wasn't working (that's when I checked his wiring and took photos). Called him again, he came back the next day and said the fan was broken and we need a new one 'without a timer' (the cable he didn't run is for the timer, this is a lazy work around). He left saying there wasn't anything he could do because the fan was broken. We called another electrician who tested it with another cable and the fan works fine.There were also other small things but I didn't take photos so I won't go into detail on those, but I will say he had a lot to say about other peoples work whilst he was here, which is ironic to say the least.I actually don't mind if there are problems during a job, it's normal, but I hate workmen who talk a lot and make a lot of excuses, and waste loads and loads of my time (when I've paid them for their time!) instead of taking responsibility for their work.If you need a guy to come and wire up a light he could probably do it, but I wouldn't ask him to do anything more complicated than that.
