First let me tell you I spend 6 months in Venice, Italy. Although most Italians do not there are a few that make a living scamming and taking advantage of tourists. This water taxi driver IS ONE OF THEM. My wife and two little kids wanted to take the “scenic water taxi ride” to the airport. €120 is the standard rate for a ride to Marco Polo airport. This driver said he would do it for €110. I know, I should have seen it coming. He took us for a 5 minute water taxi ride to Piazelle Roma and called a taxi on his phone to drive us the rest of the way. The water taxi ride from the fish market to Piazelle Roma is €30-€40 tops. The taxi ride to Marco Polo airport is €35-€40, he charged us €110. After 6 months I know these prices well. HOWEVER, THIS WAS NOT THE PROBLEM! When I we arrived at the dock at Piazelle Roma I addressed the misunderstanding we had because I assumed we were taking the water taxi to the airport. The water taxi driver went INSANE! He tore off from the dock like a maniac leaving my stroller and some of the luggage on the dock, stopped his boat in the middle of the canal, threatening to make me miss my flight and went on a rant, screaming at the top of his lungs, scaring my wife and little children. Not only is this guy psycho but extremely unprofessional. If there was a misunderstanding it could have been fixed civility like adults but what he did was out of line and uncalled for. Water taxi drivers are a dime a dozen. Find ANY other company with good reviews. Save yourself the headache and scamming games with this company!
