Museo Pio-Clementino

È il museo per antonomasia da cui inizia la visita vera e propria e che raccoglie testimonianze preziose, dal cortile ottagono al vestibolo Quadrato, dalla sala degli animali al gabinetto delle maschere (non inclusi nei tour gratis), dalla sala delle muse a quella della Viganò a quella michelangiolesca rotonda, oltre alla sala a croce greca (con gli importanti sarcofagi) e la galleria dei candelabri. Consiglio vivamente di passare per questa sezione dei Musei Vaticani, e ve lo consiglio da guida turistica locale ma, anche, da appassionato d'arte.Qui, infatti, sono conservate alcuni magistrali sculture, come il Laocoonte o l'Apollo del Belvedere, ma c'è molto altro oltre a ciò che è celeberrimo.Vi sono molti sarcofagi in marmo di fattura romana, interessanti per scoprire un lato della società antica, ma anche le sculture del Canova, ambienti affrescati nel corso del Rinascimento, sale che si ispirano al Pantheon, e molto altro. Vedere per credere...

In essence, a concentration of artistic creativity at a maximum level for human civilization. Impressive. It has no equal in number of exhibits and their relevance. The package visit with the other museums allows only a run and a superficial viewing of the exhibits.

Nel museo

When in Rome, enjoy the most famous landmarks in the world (They have many of those, in Rome, obviously). That is exactly what we did and Pio-Clementine Museum was one of them (a superb display of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures).

I would tell any friend visiting Rome to just avoid the museum and the Sistine Chapel. While I’m sure there are nice things in these venues there is no way to enjoy them. The museum and the Chapel prioritize revenue over real culture sharing.It isn’t even peak tourist season but it was an absolute cattle herding experience. There are no filters on letting huge volumes of people into these buildings. We could never stop walking because the crowds of people have to keep moving, you miss seeing actual museum exhibits inside and your body is stiff like a board after slowly shuffling your legs for 2 hours straight.What a miserable experience. There is plenty of other amazing things and culture to see in Italy so if you’re in Rome for only a few days I personally wouldn’t waste half of it seeing these livestock herding experiences.
