Villa Anson Silj

Booking/our experienceA group of 12 of us stayed at Villa Anson Silj for a long weekend in August. We booked direct through the website before covid 19 hit. So our dates naturally got pushed out a couple of times over the last few years. We were very open when we made this booking with Bernard that we were a hen party, we received a call the day before travelling to Rome that there have been a lot of “rave parties” that have taken their toll on the owners and their neighbours and that they would appreciate it if we could keep noise to a minimum. The first thing I would advise is if you are looking for a remote villa to have a party with friends in until the early hours this is not the villa for you, and considering our honesty when booking and the amount of times the dates moved we would have appreciated more of a heads up that noise was an issue for the owners and neighbours. It also wasn’t a great way to start the trip.We felt the villa would be better catered to a retreat, yoga or spiritual stay as this is more aligned to Bernard and Eleonora personalities. We were made to feel uncomfortable a couple of times and felt this was a little unfair considering the type of booking we made. One thing worth mentioning is we were made to feel uncomfortable that boys were invited to our hen party, I would advise Bernard refraining from making comments like this in the future, as this was uncalled for.Beds/Linen/kitchens/showersThe villa was very beautiful, beds and linen were clean and comfortable. As it has 3 kitchens, items need to come together from each to cater for dinner parties.Missing some finishing touches - cleaning supplies like spray, cloths and washing up liquid for all kitchens. Not enough bins for full recycling in each kitchen, we found this a little frustrating at times. The house closest to the pool lost warm water on the 2nd day, but plenty of others to use - just one thing to point out.Food/dinnerGrocery shop a short drive away, so do make sure you book a trip with Bernard and Eleonora if you don’t have a car. We cooked on the first night and ate in the main villa.Eleonora was very kind to take us on a 2nd trip on the second day to do another shop. This was down to luck.We then asked for some wine tasting and Apero on the 2nd night, this cost €45 PP, whilst we appreciated the amount of work that went into the preparation, we did feel this was a little steep for what we received. Food was a little dry, wine was provided with tumblers, there was no explanation of the wine or what food was provided. On the 3rd and final night we found a local vineyard that coincidentally was where the wine served the night before was from. This was the highlight of our trip and could not recommend more. The name of the villa is Terre Del Veio and our host was Dario and his parents. The food was amazing and the wine was delicious, sparkling, white and red was provided. We could also order more to take home which we did.The setting was a long table in between two rows of the vineyard and when the sun set beautiful lights surrounded us for a great atmosphere. We were let down by taxis that didn’t arrive and the family were so gracious to give us a 15 minute lift back to our villa (which we paid for)TransportIf you don’t have a car I would advise using Uber or an app called Free Now. Transport can be provided through Eleonora and Bernard, but in comparison to what we used we did find this a tad bit steeper. If you have bags you don’t want to carry when in the centre of Rome try an app called Nanny Bag where you can pay to store your bags across Rome.Special shout out to Alberto and Norma the house and grounds keeper. You can tell a lot of labour and love goes into keeping the villa and grounds clean and beautiful.

Villa Anson Silj
The Villa itself is a beautiful building with a spacious garden around it. The setting is actually very nice and calm. The inside (interior) of the Villa however, is rather worn and to some extent shabby. If you book via Airbnb you might get the impression that you rent the whole villa. However, all you will get is just the first floor. There are some fotos on airbnb (living room) which are definitely not included in the rented parts. The kitchen was really really dirty. It seemed like used dishes have just been put back to the cupboard without proper cleaning. We were a group of 12, when we arrived there were not even sheets provied for all of us. Our group´s overall impression was that it is a nice place but definitely not worth the money.

Villa Anson Silj
Our family spent 10 days at Villa Anson Silj and adored every moment. We had easy access to Rome by car, and we also took day trips to Florence, Pompeii and Tivoli. The Villa staff were very kind and accommodating. Dado and Eleonora invited us to eat with them one evening, and Dado regaled us with fabulous stories about the property. The villa has been in his family for generations and there is something magical and historical around every corner. Our two young sons loved watching the chickens as well as feeding apples to the friendly horse that comes up to the fence. The backyard and swimming pool are very private and relaxing. The screened-in veranda was a perfect spot for family meals. My mother was traveling with us as well, and it was wonderful to have a casita to ourselves with her own bedroom on the second floor.
