What a fun time to find the brick heart underneath the arch of Sotoportego dei Preti! When I was there, only a few people were around but they had no clue about the heart. So I had it all by myself! Walk under it with your lover and touch this lucky charm at the same time, your love will last for eternity. If you visit this spot alone, you can still touch the heart and wish to find love. You can google the legend behind it. If you are tired from all the wonderful sightseeing, locating this place could be a fun activity to do with your lover, or alone. Good luck! (July 2022)

E' vicino a casa mia. Mi aveva colpito decenni fa, quand'ero bambino e ci sono passato con mio papà. Ho anche visto qualcuno cercare una pietra a forma di cuore, ma non so se ci sia una storia e soprattutto se sia antica davvero. C'é un piccolo e accogliente baretto proprio all'angolo del sotoportego.

Near the church of San Giovanni in Bragora in sestiere Castello there is a sottorportego very famous amongst lovers, indeed there is a red brick heart and when touched it makes love dreams come true within the year. This is another magic of Venice, another hidden gem, which attracts us and wants to hear her story. Legend has it that a fisherman named Orio lived here. One day while fishing he heard a voice calling for help, he was amazed when discovered that his net had caught a mermaid, named Melusina. These two fell in love, but she had been hit by a curse and every Saturday she turned into a terrible snake. The only way to overcome the curse was to marry Melusina and she would then become a human being. Orio brought her back to his house, they married and had three children, but after a few years Melusina fell ill and died. Orio was in despair, mourning. Everything changed when one day he returned home from fishing, he realized that everything in the house was mysteriously tidied up, then he found a snake in the kitchen and killed it because he was worried about the safety of his children. From that moment the house was never tidy again and Orio realized that the snake was none other than his love, Melusina, she had returned from the depths of the sea to help her family, but unfortunately she was now forever dead from his hand. In memory of this beautiful love story a red heart was put where their home was. So, in memory of this story, in the place where the house of Orio and Melusina was located, a red brick heart was placed which is said to bring good luck... if you touch it together with your loved one, your love will be destined to last forever!

Molto ma molto caratteristico, siamo a cinque minuti da Piazza San Marco, è una delle tante viuzze di Venezia ma molto più bella, ci sono tanti bar e ristoranti nelle vicinanze. Io poi ho trovato una casa per le vacanze proprio nel Sotoportego ed è stato come vivere da Veneziani, con una bella atmosfera lagunare!!
