The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari is an extraordinary institution that is a gem within a rural community just near Bari. IAM is part of the intergovernmental International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM). The Institute convenes the agriculture ministries, governments and civil bodies around the Med basin and provides a sound scientific basis for policy to Europe and the region. It conducts valuable research, holds important germplasms and it also educates very well.Every year IAMB under the overall guidance of Maurizio Raelli, turns out dozens of skilled students from nearly every country in the region. On any day, you might see a Moroccan, a Syrian, a Kosovar, an Algerian, a Lebanese, a Palestinian, an Egyptian, a Kurd or Iraqi and many more...what an amazing exchange of not just knowledge but also cultural affinity between groups that may never encounter each other in such a shared way.IAMB endows also the Regional Office of the World Water Council and fosters many networks and a large alumni group around the world.
