luogo molto suggestivo con molti gruppi marmorei ottocenteschi e liberty. da visitare la chiesa e il suo chiostronotevole la vista delle fondamenta nuove attraverso le cancellate monumentali

Cimitero monumentale San Michele Venezia

For our stay in Venice we bought a weekly vaporetto ticket which gives you unlimited travel and also a return journey to and from the airport. One day we had nothing planned so stayed on the vaporetto to see where it went. I didn't think you could visit the cemetery but the boat stopped there and we got off. The island was fascinating. Beautifully kept with graves and also walls where people's ashes were deposited. We saw the graves of Igor Stravinsky and his wife and Dhiagalev the Russian ballet impresario who founded the Ballets Russes. His grave was bedecked by ballet shoes left by visiting ballet dancers, a very nice touch. After the noise and bustle of Venice this was really quiet and peaceful. An unexpected visit that turned into a great day out.
