Oggi museo, nel seicento era la sede di un famoso banco di pegno, dove la comunità ebraica prestava denaro in cambio di interessi e con l'utilizzo di oggetti di valore come garanzia dell'operazione.Qualcuno sostiene che il termine andare in rosso" derivi da queste situazioni debitorie..."

In Venice, where the world's first Ghetto was created, there were three stalls where an object could be pledged in exchange for a cash loan. Jewish money lenders are documented in Venice as early as the 14th century but their regulation took place during the 1500s when the Ghetto was established, the state itself encouraged the activity of these banks, in order to have fewer poor people to take care of. These three banks, red, green and black, survived until the end of the Venetian Republic (1797), then the memory was lost. Fortunately today it is possible to visit one of these banks again, Banco Rosso, which has recently been restored and is now open to visitors. Its name derives from the red receipt that customers received when they pledged an object and it is thought that the banking term 'go red' derives from this ancient Venetian pawnshop.

Very small museum with a lot of importance to commemorate the pawn shop history of Venice and the Jewish community. Short and concise yet informative and unique. Only 2.5€ for 10-15 minutes, definitely worthwhile when visiting the ghetto.

Il banco rosso è una delle prime banche veneziane, situato nel Ghetto ebraico nuovo.Sinteticamente: la pratica del prestito era prerogativa degli ebrei, in quanto attività vietata ai cristiani per via di imposizioni della fede.I banchi ebraici prendevano nome dal colore delle cambiali che emettevano.Oggi il banco rosso è un museo (non visitato) proprio sull'attività del prestito e della vita nel ghetto.

Bellissimo luogo di tristi vicende.

Situato nel ghetto ebraico a Venezia, dove si respira un'aria particolare. Bellissima location, assolutamente da vedere.

È un museo molto piccolo ma vale la visita (anche se potrebbero abbassare un po' i costi) perché è importante dal punto di vista storico, fa capire molto su un'attività, quella del prestito ad interesse, che è stata prerogativa degli ebrei (soprattutto a Venezia) per secoli. Anche dal punto di vista letterario è importante: sembra abbia ispirato il Mercante di Venezia di Shakespeare!Personale gentile e competente, c'è anche da vedere un video interessante di una decina di minuti.
